Getting to the luau by car
How to reach the Polynesian dinner luau in Myrtle Beach: driving along the Grand Strand, the included parking, arrival, what to bring and accessibility.
Book a table at the luau ↗Quick answer
Drive or take a taxi. The luau is held at an inn in Myrtle Beach, and parking there is included with your ticket. Most visitors reach it along the Grand Strand's main roads, the historic King's Highway that is now US 17. Give yourself time to park and settle in before the time printed on your confirmation, show your ticket at the door, and carry cash and a light jacket.
Finding the venue
The luau takes place in an air-conditioned room at an inn in Myrtle Beach. The inn's name and the meeting instructions are on your GetYourGuide ticket; type the inn's name into your phone's maps instead of searching for a luau, since the area has several shows with similar themes. Myrtle Beach is a resort city in Horry County at the centre of the Grand Strand, a stretch of beach of more than 60 miles, so the drive from most beach hotels is short.
Driving and parking
Parking is included with the ticket, which takes one cost and one worry out of the evening. US 17, the modern line of the historic King's Highway, runs through Myrtle Beach. In the busy summer months traffic on the beach roads builds in the evening, so leave more time than your map suggests. If you plan to drink at the cash bar, arrange a taxi or a designated driver.
From the airport
Myrtle Beach International Airport lies south-west of the centre. If you land on the day of the show, a taxi or rideshare from the airport is the simplest way to reach the inn, but leave a margin for delays rather than heading straight from the arrivals hall to dinner. Visitors staying in North Myrtle Beach or the southern Strand towns should allow for the longer drive along US 17.
Arriving and checking in
Show your ticket at the door; your phone is enough. Leave enough slack to park, check in and be seated before the confirmed start, because the band begins while the buffet opens and the evening keeps to its two-hour shape. Bring cash for the bar, photos, souvenirs and tips, and a light jacket for everyone: the organisers warn that the room's air conditioning can make it feel chilly, even in July.
Accessibility and special needs
The venue is wheelchair accessible. Requests for a particular seat, room for a wheelchair or a change to what you eat should go to the organiser as a message from your booking days ahead, not at the door, because a buffet is planned in advance and seating fills up when the show is busy. The room is indoors and air-conditioned throughout, so heat is not a concern, but the cool air may be for some guests.
Before and after
Make a day of it by spending the morning or afternoon on the beach and the evening at the luau. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, opened in 2010, and the 200-foot SkyWheel beside it, opened in May 2011, are the classic daytime stops along the oceanfront. Further south, Murrells Inlet is known for its half-mile MarshWalk over the salt marsh. Leave at least an hour between a beach day and the show to change, find your jacket and drive across town.
